10 Tips for Hooping at the Bar

Hello Hoopers, It’s a Friday night and you want to get your dance on. You’re going out and of course you want to bring your hoop along! The unfortunate thing is some bars and clubs have stopped letting hula hoops inside. The worst thing that can happen is to have a bar officially decide to never allow hoopers to bring in a hoop again. Once the decision to coat check hoops have been made, then that location might never be hoop friendly again. So below are some basic hooper etiquette tips to follow when bringing your hoop out in public for the night. If we all hoop respectfully around others than together we can keep hoops allowed in public spaces.  Much love, Safire Tips for Hooping in a Bar 1. Teacher Training Hoop Dance Certification FAQs

Hello Hoopers,  It is common to have a lot of questions when first looking into hoop dance certification. Below are some of the key questions people have when first beginning their research. Feel free to post below with other other questions you have about hoop dance certification and I’ll do my best to answer them!  Much love, Safire Do I have to be certified to teach hooping? No. Certification is not mandatory and Hula Hoop City promotes the idea that certification should never be mandatory for hooping. If you want to take training and certification it should be because you want to improve as an instructor and increase your skills to benefit your students not just to get a piece of ‘paper.’ Why should I take a hoop teacher training? Teacher training programs will help y...

8 Hairstyle Tutorials for Hoop Dancers

Hello Hoopers, So… I suck at hooping with my hair down.  It’s just not my bag. It gets in the way, gets stuck in my mouth, or catches on my eyelashes. Now, I’m pretty lazy when it comes to doing my hair. Unless it’s a special occasional, functionality is my main concern when it comes to the appearance of my hair. Unfortunately, this means 90% of the time my long hair (which I’ve spent years going out for some unknown reason) is up in a ponytail.  If you’re like me, then here… please enjoy these adorable hairstyle tutorials to help keep your hair out of your face while hooping!! Embracing your Sexuality: Part One – Admitting the Struggle

Hello Hoopers, A few months ago I had a unique experience and was incredibly hesitant to share it publicly on Instagram or a blog post. It happened when a friend captured a video snippet of me fire eating with two friends while we were playing around one night. We had spent the afternoon at a Tattoo fest where other friends performed a sexy and sassy fire dance number. As a result, later that night when we were having a fire jam, some of that sexual energy came out in our movements. After seeing the video below, I had an insight on something that has been bothering me for most of my hoop life.  It is a struggle for me to be ‘sexy’ on stage… I feel like an imposter, like I’m pretending to be a woman, like a watered down version of someone else who has more allure, mo...
